VAL ATC Workshop 9/20/2008

An ATC workshop was held at VAL in Lewisville Texas on 9/20/2008. It was a wonderful experience with over 27 ATC's made by participants. Participating in the workshop were:
David Mask (presenter), Breanna Mask, Nell Elliott, Wanda Grice, David Schulze, Bob Myers, Robert S. Myers, and Dale Griffin. Some of the ATC's made at the workshop are shown above.
Highlights of the workshop were the sharing of techniques to do ATC's, showing how to use unique materials and demonstrating individual methods. Thanks to all that made this workshop a success. The next workshops are planned for January and March 2009 at VAL.

ATC sleeve done in June 2008

I usually do about 20 to 60 ATC's in a session. Each session is about 2 hours. Many of the ATC's are completed then or they are prepared for another level of application. This means I'm going to draw or paint more into it and this session was only getting it ready for something else. In the set of nine shown, these were experiments where I put drops of paint then squeegeed them down the ATC. Five of them were done using that technique. It was fun. Thanks for looking.

Art Trading Cards Made by David Mask

This a set of nine ATC's all done in the same session. The ATC in the lower right hand corner is made from sandpaper and so is the one above it. Some of the figurative ATC's are from the Tribal ATC series.

Robot

The robot ATC was made using an inked piece of foam from a meat tray. A drop of red acrylic paint is used for the circle/heart. D. Mask

My first ATC's

Using a sports card, I sanded the entire card except for the head. Then I gessoed the sanded part then painted the image. It was a good beginning. I still look at them in my 3-ring binder.

Action Cards by David Mask

Using a Jackson Pollock paint splattering technique, here are samples of three different ATC sessions. Action painting with ATC's is fun. I usually do about 30 to 50 cards at once by taping them together on a table. It's easier to plan and direct the paint that way. Plus, the product is usually sensational. D. Mask

O Fish

O Fish is an ATC completed using a section of product box. The O was kept and the rest of the box surface was sanded then gessoed. The O was used for the eye of the fish. The rest of the fish was painted covering the gessoed portion of the box section. D. Mask

Core of the issue

This year, I did an ATC project using apple cores given to me by various people. I did about 5o drawings using these apple cores. It got some interesting responses when I did it. Most good. From these drawings I did eight ink drawings on blank ATC cards then I painted around that inked drawing with cardinal red acrylic paint. These eight ATC's were used in a sculpture. The sculpture was submitted in a VAL gallery show and won a prize. David Mask

I'll submit an original ATC or more every day.
I plan to attend the VAL ATC workshop, too.

Texas Art Trading Cards

Howdy and welcome to Texas Art Trading Cards Blog.
Display your original ATC's and art comments on this blog.
Art Trading Cards or ATC's are small works of art.
One rule: The size of the art card needs to be
two and a half inches by three and half inches.
In metric that's 69 mm x 84 mm.
Paper type varies along with mark making material and style.
My paper use varies from recycled paper to store bought acid-free paper.
