Hi, I caught your blog via artandseek.com and was curious since I am required to submit an ATC at an art retreat in NM in two weeks. I have to work on Saturday and can't attend theworkshop but I have some questions. What paper do you use? When I gessoed my first attempt , the paper curled. And the more layers I tried to adhere, the more it curled. How do you maintain the dimensions and look of a Card short of using plywood or canvas?
feel free to email me as I may not make it back to your site. miedrichluo@yahoo

Karen, use any kind of heavy paper preferable card stock or even watercolor paper. David uses all kinds of materials and card stock. You can even use cereal boxes and cut up medium weight board candy boxes.

If you use regular typing paper you will get a curl. Use heavier paper and cut up packages that use a cardboard like paper. Then gesso it. You should not get any curl or minimum. You missed a great workshop today.

Karen--thanks for blogging with us. Hope you can make the next workshop. It's on Sept. 20th at the VAL gallery in L-ville. As Pauline said in regrds to paper and glue. I even use illustration board, a little thick but easy to use. 60-300 pound paper is used. I suggest stiff archival paper in card stock thickness. When Pauline collages some of her ATC's an advantage is that you increase the thickness of the paper. D. Mask
